Quote Of The Day: Fashion According to Coco Chanel

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street. Fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. -Coco Chanel

I agree with Madame Chanel.  There is much more to fashion than pretty colors and flattering fits.  It is an outward expression of yourself- what you love, what you cherish, what you want to be in life.

Epic Find Of The Day: Ivy Dress by French Connection

If you ask anyone who knows me well, they’ll tell you that I can’t resist a good bargain.

Last night, my mom and I took a trip to our local Lord & Taylor where I found a DKNY bra for $17 and stud earrings and necklace for $12 (that’s for both pieces).  I was THRILLED. In shopping heaven.

But get a load of this.  I found a French Connection dress on the 50% off clearance rack tagged as $125 and a size smaller than I normally wear.  I tried it on for kicks, and it was love as first fit.  Perfect colors, perfect shape, perfect fit.  Still, it was only 50% off of $125.  I hate it when that happens.

So I took it to the register anyway, expecting to leave it behind. I paid $20.24 for this dress. Let’s walk through this, shall we?

$168 (full price) > $125 (sale price) > $83.98 (unmarked clearance price) > 50% off (clearance rack) > 25% off clearance merch. coupon > $15 off a purchase coupon = $20.24 (my price)

Now that’s math even I can do.

What’s your most epic fashion find?

Store Of The Day: Anthropologie

My sister, the one in Paris, introduced me to the wonderful world of Anthropologie when she started working there a few years ago.  Since then, I’ve only fallen more in love with everything I see in that store.  And even though she’s studying in Paris, I will casually browse through the website, identifying my favorites with a profound sigh to follow, since I can’t afford them without her discount.  If she were here, this is what I would want.

This dress, with the impressionistic paint style in the detail and inspiration from the Big Apple:

Next up is another dress paired with a sweater (see below), an outfit already thought of and on the Anthropologie website.  The dress, to me, is perfection: the bow at the waist, the layers of material, everything about it is amazing.  I also love the contrast of the blues- especially the dark blue- in the dress with the hints of gold in the sweater.

And some of their loungewear.  Just because I’m working from home today, and comfort is key when doing so:

Item Of The Day: Hunter Wellies Rain Boots

Today and tomorrow, the Northeast is getting pounded with more snow, rain, and other silly winter weather. When you’re living in as wet a winter as we’ve been having, you must have proper footwear!

Enter Hunter Wellington rain boots.

Hunter is a Scottish company that produces boots of incredible quality, especially rain boots.  My favorites are the Original Gloss Tall Boot, mainly because they’re shinier and brighter, and I like obnoxiously colored rain boots.  They’re a great way to brighten up a dark, damp day.  Don’t forget about the liners to keep your feet warm!

Look Of The Day: My Perfect PARIS Outfit

If you read my last post, it’s no secret that I’m going to Paris in April and I’m incredibly excited about it.  My fashion-forward sister is studying abroad there, so for the first 12 days of the month, I will be roaming around the city with her.  With Paris on the brain, I came up with my dream outfit to wear while wandering around the Louvre, the Jardin des Tuileries, and the other beautiful sites I will see.  Hopefully it’ll be warm enough for my pick :) c’est parfait!

Quel est votre costume parfait pour Paris? (roughly translated: what would your perfect Paris outfit be?)

Frugal Find Of The Day: Reusable Totes from Forever21

Double wammy here. Help the environment by snatching up one of these reusable totes from Forever21. I love them because some are Paris themed, et j’aime Paris! I’ll be visiting my sister who’s studying abroad there in April *squeals of excitement*, AND they’re only $1.50. Can’t ask for a better price than that!

The totes also have different themes but all have to do with love, which I think is cute. They’re great for shopping of any kind, especially at the food store, and will make great beach bags when summer comes. How can you pass these up? I know I can’t :)

Dress Of The Day: Oscar de la Renta for Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker is debuting her 6th fragrance called SJP NYC. And while her thought process behind creating a new fragrance is nice enough- stylelist.com quoted her saying, “It’s like when they ring the recess bell, that excitement of the beginning if summer”- it’s the dress in her ad that I’m obsessed with.

The custom dress was designed by Oscar de la Renta solely for this advertisement. Bright pinks with hints of yellows and oranges definitely capture the inspiration behind the fragrance, especially the pop of pink tulle underneath.  Now I’m left asking when knock offs of this dress will be made so I can have one. Unless Mr. de la Renta wants to loan me this one, which I’d be more than ok with…

Handbags Of The Week: Which Would You Choose?

I LOVE handbags of any kind.  It’s really an unhealthy obsession.  They’re probably my most favorite thing to buy, even though I have dozens of them.  Here I picked out four beautiful handbags that would be perfect for the spring.  I want to know -which one would you most like to have?

Item Of The Day: Sequin Slip Tank by Free People

I’m venturing into New York City tomorrow for drinks with various friends, so what better to wear than a great stand out top matched with wardrobe staples? This slip tank from Free People is one of my favorite shirts and will be paired with a great black blazer from Anthropologie, my favorite pair of Joe’s Jeans and flat black boots. Will post pictures of the whole outfit after the weekend is over :)

Color Of The Day: Emerald Green from Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta presented beautiful jeweled tones in his fall 2010 runway show this week.  My favorite one? The emerald green we saw in several of his pieces.  Not only is it a beautiful and striking color, but it’s also my birth stone, so double win :)   Be sure to check out the entire collection.  Not only did he show the emerald green, but there were also several pieces in fuchsia, deep orange, and cobalt blue. Amazing colors for the fall.
